In this session, the speaker provided a lens to better understand the drivers behind Open Banking and how those drivers ultimately affected the solution architecture. He covered the evolution of the Open Banking architecture across different regions and markets and discussed how these differing approaches struck a balance between innovation and standardization, goals that are often treated as competing concerns.

As he drilled down on the technology, he discussed how API gateways and micro services fit into a comprehensive architectural solution, and how the emergence of the service mesh provided a foundation for a future-ready, optimal Open Banking architecture.

A real-world case study described how the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce’s (CIBC’s) open-source, cloud-native API platform, the API Foundation, realized this optimal architecture, including the milestones achieved and the challenges faced along the way. In conclusion, he talked about a framework for establishing an API-driven business culture focused on speed, innovation, and client needs.
